Challenge #34: clarification

Hi Paul, I received my copy of Turing Tumble yesterday and am stuck on it since… Thank you very much for your wonderful work!

In challenge 34, I’m not sure of the objective:

  1. “If bit A and gear B are turned opposite…” (The printed version)
    Or
  2. “If, at the start of the machine, bit A and gear B are turned opposite…” (The way I understand it)

I’m not sure that my understanding of the objective is right or wrong.

Yeah, whenever a puzzle talks about how things “are”, it’s referring to the initial settings before releasing a ball.
