Initial setup:

1. If both gear bits (purple) and bits (blue) point to the left, intercept a blue ball in the middle interceptor
2. If gear bits (purple) points to the right and bits (blue) points to the left, intercept a red ball in the right interceptor
3. If gear bits (purple) points to the left and bits (blue) points to the right, intercept a blue ball in the middle interceptor
4. If gear bits (purple) nd bits (blue) point to the right, intercept a red ball in the right interceptor
