Daisy-chaining boards?

The game book seems to strongly suggest a computer built out of smaller boards, chained together to form a giant computing machine. How might multiple boards be connected together to perform larger computations? The most obvious thing I can think of is to connect the marble release of some boards to levers other than their own, although there’s probably some more interesting things that can be done if it were possible to differentiate between red and blue marbles.
