This felt like cheating to me initially, but as interceptors are amongst the admissible parts, a few ramps can be removed by adding a second interceptor at the top for the red ball.

There may be other puzzle solutions for which you can reduce the number of parts with a second interceptor.

Yep, that approach works - you have access to unlimited interceptors, and the letter of the requirement is to intercept a red ball, not to intercept one in the provided interceptor. It may not be the most robust interpretation of the requirements, but it’s defensible, and lets you optimise for parts.
